Every morning, Rich Merlino heads out for his five-kilometre run.
The Niagara Falls resident started as part of his mission to run for 100 consecutive days and donate $100 to charity in the name of his 22-year-old friend, Julianne Miszk, who was battling cancer.
No matter the weather, Merlino has runs.
“I’ve had people come and run with me and we chat about Julianne while we’re running — just to keep her memory alive.”
Miszk died in last July after a battle with osteosarcoma.
The multi-time para-running champion is a Niagara Falls Sports Wall of Fame inductee for a career during which she captured seven Ontario Federation of School Athletic Association championships, among other medals.
