At this morning's meeting Kristina Manzi, the Senior Development Officer for the Hotel Dieu Shaver Foundation, presented a very detailed outline of the hospital's services and Foundation objectives. Dennis Gilmore and fellow members of the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise were all pleased to present Kristina with their first donation to purchase a new bed and mattress as part of their campaign to purchase 42 specialty beds for the hospital.
Patients can have as long as an average of 61 day stays. These are more than just a bed. It's comfort after a long day of therapy. It's care so that wounds heal faster and it's hope for a meaningful recovery. Each bed cost $6,420. The special mattresses cost extra. It is critical that people recognize that the government does not fund patient care equipment, so donations like this are the only source the hospital has to improve their service to people of our community. The Club hopes to have more funds available soon for this critical need.
