International Activity

A small portion of the budget for the Rotary Club of Niagara Falls Sunrise is allocated to International Projects

 

• The Sunrise Club sponsors Nieves and Jonas, two children Bolivia. In the past we have contributed funds to help build a kitchen in their school.
• We sponsored a group from the YMCA going to Guatemala. The group assist the people that live in the city dump called Mi Refugio. This particular group took medical supply donated from our club.
• We gave money to the Cameo International  project. This is a Canadian organization that sends personnel to countries like the Sudan in order to train people to remove landmines that are left after war action in the country.
• In 2000 the Sunrise club sent money through Rotary International to the earthquake victims of India. These funds would multiply as a result of the fund 'matching' that Rotary International does.
• We sponsored a group of St. Paul High School students to go to Haiti and help the citizens of what has been proclaimed and the 'poorest' country in the Americas
• Through the Niagara on the Lake Rotary club, we helped to sponsor a project that built Dental Operation rooms in Uganda.
• We donated to a group that made fresh water from fog.  This allowed fresh water to be provided to impoverished communities in Nepal's mountains. Large 'net' are strung between poles high in the mountains. As the fog passes trough the nets, water condenses on the nets and drips to collectors on the bottom. This fresh water is then piped to the community below.
